Usually, the canteen would reopen again after the roll call until 9am, at which time the so-called “workers’ parade” takes place. To our surprise we learned that Griffith had ordered the canteen closed, for which there was no reason since the two incidents had been dealt with. The news spread through camp like lightning and the carpenters, who had already started to work, stopped right away, because to them the closure of the canteen was equal to a punishment.
