In my unit, Schmidt & Recklinghausen sleep in a double-bunk to the left, Brennecke and I to the right (I on top), and against the back wall lies Franzen on a cot that he brought along from Singapore. We are the 3rd unit in the 9th company and form the other half to M. & A. Suhl, Brandt, Teichmann und Volgen. Each company of 100 men is led by a German, albeit one selected by the Australians. They are said to be mostly somewhat questionable characters, operating as
