The last bit is probably a joke, but there seems to be something in the air. So let’s wait some more. We are beginning to learn the true meaning of ‘’be patient’’. The overcoats have actually been handed out, but – in true Australian style – only to those who do not have money in the bank. Which means that most of us did not get one.
The night-time cold is getting worse by the day. We even saw ice in the puddles on some early mornings. Thanks to Trude’s thoughtfulness to make me take a blanket and a plaid along, I’m a bit better off than most, but I still had a woollen blanket delivered from Sydney. One has to lie very still at night because any movement in the narrow and rickety
bunk bed dislodges the carefully arranged blankets and lets the cold air creep in. Despite all the blankets, I go to bed, like most everybody, wearing a woollen singlet, underwear and even
