not to mention other cruelties. The British, in their hatred of Germans, seem to have lost all reason, to judge from such articles. Just how far they’re gone becomes apparent when a man like C.W. Darbishire, head of the company Patterson Simons & Co, in an address to the Chamber of Commerce, Singapore on 19th April 1915, can say:
When will the war end? I wish I could tell you. When last I addressed you the pagans had just been sacrificing babes and sucklings on the East Coast to their Gods of Blood + Iron. The gods were not appeased, so their wretched idolators sank lower in their degradations and are now hurling their offerings of women and children into the icy seas. Such deeds presage the end. They make me confident of an early collapse. They are the frenzied spasms of a foiled and desperate nation. (applause)
And earns applause for it!
From the notices in the newspaper we learn that MacGregor’s Norddeutsche Lloyd and the
Bremer Stahlrohr Fabrik of [Direman?] are being liquidated.
