the government has not provided any sport or recreation facilities whatsoever, except for a theatre tent. There is no large dining or reading room, or any room where one could
quietly read or write. Thus, short of going for a walk, one is forced to spend one’s time in
the small mess-room.
There are absolutely no rainwater drains or boardwalk-type footpaths or similar facilities so that after a few days of rain, the ground becomes a morass and you sink in ankle -deep.
Conditions are just unbelievable and it’s a disgrace how the English-Australian government puts us civilian prisoners up. Apart from the fact that it’s outrageous to arrest civilians just because they are German, at the very least they should be offered decent living conditions. The dreams some men had of living free and comfortably on a farm have fast dissipated. Hopefully this state of affairs
