the theatre tent has become too small. It was graciously consented to have another
theatre built, albeit by volunteers in their spare time. The government provides the roofing (corrugated iron) for free, while we prisoners fell the trees and cut the beams and planks needed. Thus the government gets a new building very cheaply.
The gymnastics club and the choir that we had in Singapore have reunited here and been fortified by other inmates. We will also start getting the mustering area back in shape for football games, and even a bowling alley is planned. Thus we should gradually get a bit more variety into this camp.
What’s very painful for us is that we can’t get any newspapers. Our pleadings right at the start were coldly dismissed. So we are completely in the dark on what’s happening in the world. Occasionally, via a sympathetic Pommy,
