Shortly before my internment I went to a pharmacy to buy some medicine and when the owner realised I was German he said:
“You Germans must be a wonderful nation. Since the beginning of the war I counted all the figures of dead and wounded in the papers and found that up to date you lost:
18 million men, the Emperor and 7 sons and 3 crown princes
That was more than enough and now I have given it up.”
A small sign that even here people no longer simply believe all the fairytales of the British. The mood among the population and in the press seems to vary quite a bit. England, anyway, did its utmost to instigate, just to get as many recruits
