My Dear William

Before this has reached you the sad & afflicting loss your family has sustained will have been made known to you by letters sent in the Prince Regent, which was the first ship that sailed after the events had taken place - I have also written a letter to your father by Dr. Evans who takes this & who will give you more particulars.  To dwell on such afflictions which cannot be recalled is a hopeless & melancholy task & I hope after the
