would give satisfaction to your family & to officiate over the remains of one I so highly esteemed; but so sudden was the event & so complicated & distant were the family arrangements I had made that it became impossible in the short space of time to make any alterations in them. The attendance however must be gratifying to your feelings, for all were voluntary & I believe I may truly say, that it was no want of esteem or respect which induced many others to abstain from expressing a wish to join the mournful procession - 
 
I have heard from the Major since I left Town & it is impossible to say too much of his conduct & prudence on this occasion - I was on my way to see one of my Sisters settled near Southampton with a large family of children & then I shall go to London again on my way to the North. I hope to see the Major about June, when we may expect letters from your circle & God grant they may be good - On other subjects I refrain at this time to touch; another time to my dear friends As & W.n I may write
