My Dear Bowman

With feelings you can more easily imagine than I can describe, I have to communicate to you the afflicting intelligence of the death of our dear friend John Macarthur. I know how severe a blow this will be to the whole family & more so to [indecipherable] his most excellent & amiable mother whose health I fear is not in a state to withstand such a shock.
