write to your father or brother very soon - the first leisure moment I can get; but I assure you that from 7 in the morning till 12 at night I find ample employment - this you will wonder at in my little way; but I am certain that if a person proceeds with method his time need never lay heavy on his hands.

Upon the subject of wool you know my opinion & how any person if they understood the matter could ever entertain a doubt as to the policy (or rather impolicy) of taxing it I cannot divine - such a doubt convinces me that these matters are ill understood; even a slight attention to what Fred. Robinson has said but does not practice [indecipherable] on the subject of foreign trade would have been a sufficient lesson - But mark me - if Van wants it & you do not not use private influence all "recommend actions" will be as smoke - do not rely on them.  I heartily congratulate you on securing the medal which I suppose you will do in propria persona [latin translation "personally'] after Easter & if you can obtain the other it will be a source of increased satisfaction - When your next Cargo arrives do not fail to let me have a sample or two not by pounds but ounces & a copy of the sales as well as the particulars as to flocks having them all in my eye.
