Tuesday 14th  - This morning I rode to top of a lofty vocanic cone and took several observations, then travelling to the Sou West I struck the tracks of the party going southwards, I shortly came to the camp. they had pitched it here because their progress ahead was stopped by stoney mountains

   In the afternoon I rode several miles ahead but could find no track for the packs.
