Transcription

Right away the English cruiser ‘’Minotaur’’ and a Japanese cruiser set sail and towards evening one could observe from the Gulle [?] Face Hotel the lightning and the thunder from cannons. The next morning, at the same hotel, a large amount of beds were commandeered, but were not used in the end. It’s possible, as some claim, that the Japanese mistook the ‘’Minotaur’’ with its 4 chimneys for the ‘’Emden’’ and sank it. The truth will likely not be known until after the war, but it’s striking that no-one has ever heard of the ‘’Minotaur’’ again.

15/8/1915. Hurrah! Our wish has become reality and most of us Singapore people will go to Trial Bay.
