THE Committee of the Woman's Branch of the SOCIETY FOR PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS desires to explain to Teachers of Children, Parents, and the public generally, to whom they now appeal for co-operation and support, that their existence as an Auxiliary Committee originated in the gradual awakening amongst all classes, the necessity of measures being taken to promote and encourage more systematic consideration as to the humane treatment of animals, a subject, which hitherto has not received the careful attention which it deserves, especially among children at home and at school.
One of the principal objects of the Committee will be the encouragement and formation of Bands of Mercy, and to take under their auspices the Bands already organised, for the purpose of giving council, and assistance in obtaining Cards, Medals, and Literature, subject to the following provision:-"That each Band retain its individual freedom of direction and responsibility in all matters relating to local proceedings."
