the Church. This church is very massive indeed & will be very fine when completely decorated with stone carving and mosaics. From it a splendid view of the city is gained.
Below it lies the old cathedral which contains a very old and famous clock. We saw it strike twelve, when, among other operations, the figure Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary while praying, & the spirit of God in the symbol of a dove descended upon her.
At this time Lyons was busy with one of the International Fairs which are held there annually, having been inaugurated during the war take the place of Dresden Fair.
