a small town near the Southern extremity of Lake Como about 30 miles NE of Milan. Here I straightway had dinner (8pm) & had no difficulty in getting a room at the "Corona (Crown Hotel)" as, owing to the war & the earliness of the season few tourists were about.
The next morning I took the train on about 20 miles to Varenna an important village mid way up the eastern shore of the Lake. I arrived here about 8 am after a very pretty run in the (electric) train along the shores of the lake & skirting
