that one is able to see. It would be vain of me to attempt to describe the ruins individually, & also unnecessary, as they are so publicly described.
The whole lie in a very damp hollow behind the Capitol, and near the centre of the city. They are carefully preserved but free from protective covering or re-constructions, and are fenced off from public traffic, but are open all day every day to visitors on payment of a small entrance fee, soldiers being allowed free entrance.
It is well to take a general view of the ruins from the Capitoline or Palatine Hill
