[mountain]ous country with the variation of foliage [indecipherable] which makes the attraction of this part of France. It is certainly delightful but noway comparable with our own South Coast.
While at Nice I took the opportunity to get my leave pass extended for four or five days. I had heard the R.T.O. (Railway Transport Officer) was a good fellow & not too strict altho a Tommy major. Good news travels quickly.
As I had been to Monte Carlo on my way up I did not go any of the grand motor trips which may be made fron Nice, but spent most of my time on the waterfront. I lobbed in Nice about 2 pm one day & left
