centre. The outlying seaside resorts are very pretty although Nice is no doubt a commercial centre for them. However, the sea front at Nice is very fine. The beach is sand but scantly. The esplanade is magnificent being of great width & about 3 or 4 miles long. It is faced by a number of fine hotels. The pier is very fine - the best I have seen. It contains casino & concert rooms, but when I was there was being run as an American YMCA, & a very fine one too. I made myself welcome.
