for a train so I had a walk around. It is a rather fine town with substantial all-stone buildings and squarely laid streets. Many of them had no footpaths & were cobbled with drainage gutter under the middle of the street. The cobbles were the natural not the cut variety.
From Turin it is about a three hours run to Milan, but I was in a slow train. The Second class was full up so I found a seat in the Third class with a Tommy returning from leave & a crowd of Italian workmen. It was interest to observe
