interest to the traveller. Much of it was wasted on an untalented, unread & materialistic young fellow like I was. I did not seem worthy to look at the fine masterpieces.
Italy is no tourist ground for those who are not well read, and those whose chief delight is natural beauty would better travel elsewhere.
To Rome I had come via Modane & Venice, & now to return to France I went via Genoa & Vintimiglia the border station on the southern of the two internation lines, and then in France I went via Nice, Marseilles & Lyons to Paris
