We were running slowly enough, behind a powerful engine around the sea cliffs above Monte Carlo when there was a sudden crash of glass & we found our engine had bumped into another one & been badly damaged.
Nowise inconvenienced, I left the train & was first into a hairdressers saloon in Monte Carlo for a shave & "incidentally" a wash. This after some coffee & biscuits at an early opening estaminet. Then I took the tram up the headland to the famous casino & joined a large party (say 400) of American soldiers seeing through the
