train to Lyons, arriving about 7 am the next day, 6th March. I went to the American YMCA & had a clean up & some breakfast, then joined one of their parties sightseeing.
Lyons is an exceptionally fine city, well laid out & built & occupying a lovely situation between the two rivers - the Rhone & the Saonne which junction just below the city. The bridges across the Rhone especially are very fine, comparing if not equalling the bridges over the Seine at Paris. Across the Saonne is a high ridge the highest part of which, over-looking the town is occupied by
