with a lot of French soldiers in a disused railway carriage, was shown by my "Cook's guide - a military policemen to an hotel nearby, where I stayed for the night.
The next day I spent looking around Marseilles, high & low, back & front I went to see all aspects. I did not however visit the museum, a little way out.
Marseilles is a very fine city altho' very cosmopolitan as one would expect of the largest port of France. It is a very interesting city also. There are fine avenues, one with the large arch commemmorating the formation of the republic, shops, & open air cafés as in Paris
