Practically for the first time in France, I learnt a little more French, having always had command of sufficient to make my wants known, especially more to the north where more English is spoken by the Flemish.
During December, January and February snow was often on the ground and some days were very cold but the winter was not a severe one. The snow would usually attain a depth of about six inches, then perhaps thaw a little and freeze about four inches deep and remain like that.
The country being hilly, the winds were not so biting.
