I am grateful for the kind consideration you express, and for the offer of assistance to any member of my family, and am encouraged by it to ask if you would kindly consent to appoint my present assistant, a Grand-daughter who has been four years in the office, is very intelligent and capable, and is nearly twenty one years of age, to succeed me if resigned.
I should have to rely upon her gratitude for something towards my Maintenance until perhaps a gratuity would be accorded me.
I should count its a favor if your consideration could be given promptly to this matter, as it is to me now of great urgency
