I seldom see her.

I do not feel inclined to write except about Middle for my head is full of poor Mary - when sitting & talking to me she had to say "I am quite free from pain" - but still as you may suppose this hangs like a sword over her, & her right hand some time ago became rather numb from using some poisonous ointment she said - but I believe it was only from the state of her general health - so now she writes badly & not [indecipherable] to herself - consequently I do not hear any thing about her as often as I did as George & Jack forget to write - it is a melancholy state of things & nothing cheering to look forward to as far as her bodily comfort goes. Mary (my Mary) is going to write by the San Francisco mail as we think it better than writing
