other parts of the shew. We were in the magnificent Advocates Library where in a glass case is preserved the original Manuscript of Waverley, & various curious old missals & bibles - & we went through the various judicial halls & courts.

We went to Holyrood, the most interesting part of which is the old ruined Chapel - For two days we were at Morton Hall, about 4 miles from Edinburgh - the dwelling of Mr Trotter - introduced there by Johnny who is his Son in Law - He is one of the old Scotch Lairds, very rich, living luxuriously with no great shew, & so quiet & unpretending in manner that he scarcely seems the master of the house.

From Morton Hall we took a drive to Roslyn & spent a lovely afternoon between that beautiful old ruin & Hawthornden. Lord Roslyn is restoring a good deal of the sculpture of the Chapel, & having it beautifully executed.
