We saw a little of Windermere & then went to Keswick - had plenty of rain - saw the Pencil Manufactory - took a drive round by Borrowdale, Buttermere & Crummock Water - admired all the scenery exceedingly, but all agreed in thinking that we preferred living in an open country. We proposed going from Keswick to Ullswater, but it commenced to rain in earnest - every little cascade pouring its brimful into the valleys so we deemed it more prudent to get out of the Lake Country & got back to Kendal, having enjoyed ourselves considerably. The next day we were at Middle again - found Johnny & his wife there, & by the end of the week came Willy & his bride (Miss Duppa) so that the house was quite full.  The bride is considerably older than Willy, but as he is old looking & she young looking, it does not look such a disparity at present as might be. She is amusing, but almost too
