My dear Mrs Mc Arthur

I should have answered your kind letter in Australia but was prevented by my living eleven miles from the town, and two Rivers to cross deprived me of hearing of the arrivals of the Ships, till they had left King Georges Sound. You will be surprised to hear from me from this quarter of the world. My return to England was from a sad Melancholy loss, in being deprived of my dear Tom Spencer by sudden death an affliction of the heart, a complaint several of his family have died of, it was a sad melancholy affliction, but it was the will of the Almighty, He only can know what is best for us, this is a world of care and you my Dear Mrs
