& consequently has been unable to be with her - however now I have sent her a good nurse & she seems to like her. George is kindness itself to her - but poor man, it has been trying work for him for her nights, while I was there, became so restless & he alone was with her.  At first she would not hear of a nurse, but she became rapidly more helpless while I was there, & so consented to have one. George said to me "What are we to do if she becomes unable to walk, for it will take 4 men to carry her up & down stairs?" however I believe it will be easy for two to do so in a carrying chair - it was very sad to be at Middle & see her helpless & suffering state, for I could not look forward to her getting stronger, only could hope she would have less lumbago &  no pain from the swelling.
