31/7/16. Life does play some strange tricks. For a few months now a Mr Kleine has been interned in Liverpool; he has lived in Australia for many years and was naturalised. Before the outbreak of war he travelled to Germany for a holiday and, as an Australian citizen, was promptly interned in Ruhleben. After prolonged efforts he was finally discharged to England and did then return to Australia, only to be interned here on the spot. English justice once again has shown its true colour! There was so much Australian propaganda in Germany in earlier years in order to attract settlers to Australia, and there are indeed many German villages, especially in Queensland and Western Australia, that bear German names, have German pastors and speak predominantly German. All these settlers had to become naturalised since by law only an Australian, or an Englishman, can own land. And despite this compulsion they now dare agitate against all Germans and German descendants
