again. Usually, when hearing such news we take solace in the belief that they are false or at least greatly exaggerated by the enemies, so as to mask their own problems. Often we have been proven right, too, but it would still be good to know for sure what’s going on,
if only to put our minds at ease for a while. Letters that arrive always tell us that food supply, if not ample, is at least adequate, but those letters arrive 5 and sometimes 6 months late. At first, after receiving the letters, one feels better. But slowly doubts set in as to whether the senders are even allowed to write the truth, or one begins to wonder, given the letters are so old, what might have happened in the meantime. It’s a horrible thing, especially once you do begin to ponder! Don’t they feel for us in Germany? Couldn’t they, by interning prominent Belgian and French citizens and other foreigners, maybe by interning them in remote areas, exert enough pressure
