30/9/16. Since I couldn’t stand anymore spending all day in this well-known area, I have mustered on for road maintenance work. We are a group of about 20 gentlemen and have begun to repair the potholes in the main road leading to the prison. We work from
8am to noon, with a half-hour break, and are paid a princely £1 for it. It’s not hard work but the pay is still lousy and way below the average wages paid around here. I wonder if the prisoners in German camps are paid as badly as this for their work? Most likely we Germans are far too decent in this respect too!
