It was an unexpected and huge delight to receive a parcel from home and to see that one
is being thought of. Our children have grown considerably. It’s almost 4 years that I haven’t seen them. I wonder how they developed spiritually and mentally. It was stupid of me to stay in the tropics so long. How much more would I have had of my wife and children, and of life in general, back in Germany! I will make sure my boy will not make the same mistake in his life. I don’t even know what the young man wants to become. I do must ask.
Politically, the most important [development] is the vacation of the Gallipoli peninsula by the Allied. It’s the first significant triumph that the Turks and we have scored over the British mob. Let’s hope there will be others. That such a vacation did not result in major casualties, as the British claim, must be a lie.
