27/12/1915. We’ve put Christmas safely behind us. It was an unhappy day for most of us since our thoughts naturally were with our loved ones, but also with the brave defenders of our borders. Daily we can judge from the newspaper reports how difficult a task that must be and what sacrifices have to be made. But one can be proud to be German when reading of the deeds achieved. On such days the fate of a civilian internee is particularly hard to bear. Healthy we are and yet impotent, unable to help the cause, separated from our loved ones, robbed of our freedom! Imagine the sad part we’ll be playing after the war, among all those who fought at the front or helped the cause in some other way.
