15/2/1916. Finally, on Sunday the 13th, the American vice-consul came, listened to all our complaints, made notes and tried to mediate, in so far successfully as Lt. Eaton declared on Monday, i.e. yesterday, that we had been punished enough for our insubordination and that the gates and the canteen would be reopened.
