My efforts to effect a deferral of the Gerbrecht motion failed. Before the motion was presented at the general meeting, I declared that the new committee, like the old one, regarded it as its primary duty to mediate between camp and Commander. We would thus be prepared to argue for the Gerbrecht motion if so desired. But given the fact that the new committee was only just a few days old and that we still had to find our bearings, we would like to have the motion deferred for 14 days. In that time we might
be able to reach agreement with the Commander on some of the proposals and requests from the camp. The recent ill-will caused by the forceful removal of two dogs from the camp, which the Commander justified on the grounds of hygiene, as advised by the physician, was an example.
