always remains objective. He even takes pain to refute many of the myths and claims published in the dailies, such as the one about the reputed German atrocities in Belgium. He is an avowed English patriot but warns of exaggerations and, in particular, of underestimating the enemy.
On Sunday, another 75 newcomers arrived. It is said, however, that this was the last batch. I hope this is true because there are indeed more than enough of us here. The newcomers are mostly engineers and 2nd helmsmen and seem to be quiet and neat people.

Father [Pohtmann ?], one of the Catholic clergymen from Colombo, recently gave a highly interesting lecture about his experiences in Southwest Africa. The Catholic clergymen in general make themselves quite useful, teaching French and Hindu. Pohtmann also recently held mass in the great hall, which I quite enjoyed, especially since he deftly avoided anything specifically Catholic or Protestant.
