Will our hopes again be thwarted? Let’s pray for the wellbeing of our fatherland. – On New Year’s Eve we managed once again to secure a bottle of beer, albeit this time against payment. It’s quite amazing how one loses the taste for alcohol
after such a long abstinence. But I guess one bottle is not enough to re-acquire the taste. Some gentlemen got the Pommies to bring in some whiskey, at £1 a bottle, but I thought that too expensive.
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day were very quiet. They didn’t differ from any other
days except that we greeted our friends with a Happy New Year.
A day after Christmas I received lovely pictures of my children, a few books and a small fir tree from my wife.
