pretty much full when we arrived. Even though there are no other sources of fresh water such as springs or creeks nearby and the government had to be mindful of a potential water shortage, which is now happening, they let us use as much water as we wanted. After each dip in the ocean most gentlemen thus rinsed off with fresh water until one fine day the [large] reservoir was empty and the pipes stopped functioning. Now, of course, there was red alert. They checked out the reservoir and found nothing but mud and dirt. But on this occasion they discovered that all the feeding ditches were overgrown and water couldn’t even flow into the reservoir. In the hope of some imminent rain a bunch of volunteers including myself cleaned out the ditches as best as we could, but alas, no rain. The basin itself was also cleaned and while they got rid of mud and dirt they also found quite a few eels which made for a nice meal.
