we have had to live apart, but none as saddening as this. We are so far apart today and yet I am glad it is so, because it would have been hard for her to live in Bourke, separated from the children. My love for her is none the less, and my yearning for my dear spouse
is all the greater. I do suffer from being alone but I gladly bear it in the knowledge that she is hale and safe. Instinctively, on a day like today, the thoughts wander back to the days when we first met.

I lie there sleepless
