The statement by a socialist that prisoners in German care are treated well suggests that this is indeed so. These gentlemen have few positive things to say about the [German] government and if they can’t find fault with the treatment of prisoners, it must be very good. But when this man then goes on to call the internment of, and othe r measures against, civilians of other nations barbarian, it’s hard to take him seriously. He seems to trust foreign reports more than the accounts of his compatriots. Or is it that every German expatriate has become a useless subject for the politicians and authorities at home, not worthy of protection, assistance or even trust? Because Dr Cohn should be aware that he robs those whom he doesn’t believe of protection, that his statements endanger them greatly. Our enemies can only enjoy such statements, using them against us and exposing the dumb, self-denigrating Germans to the derision of the world. It is very sad for us to read such statements by a representative of the German Reichstag.
