t 7 in the evening, he again tried to escape but was brutally shot to pieces while attempting to crawl from the 2nd barbed-wire fence to the 3rd. Apparently he was fired at with an exploding bullet because a doctor testified at the inquest:
“The bullet, after entering the lower part of the man’s body, had broken into pieces and had caused very severe internal injuries which resulted in death.”
A simple shot in the air would be have been enough to keep the man from proceeding further, giving the guards ample time to reach him. One has to call this homicide, especially after the warnings about the man’s mental health.

8.5.1916. The newspapers are again full of reports about famine, collapse of the German finances and lack of soldiers, all signs that our enemies must be hurting. Germany’s financial affairs must indeed be difficult to judge.
