(A Prayer for the commencement of school)
(Watermark, 1848)
Most holy and merciful God, who has commanded us to read this prayer & to [Indecipherable] thy Holy Name offer our prayer & thanks to thee. We thank thee that we have friends to teach us the knowledge of thee O God, & that thou givest us they Holy Scripture to show us the way to Heaven. Remember not against us O Lord our past offerings but make us to remember the good things we hear or read that we may hate every sin & be more careful to perform thy commands. Give such wisdom & understanding in those things we take in hand as may fit us for that state of life in which thy good Providence intends we should be placed. Suffer us not to trifle away our time but let us treasure up that learning in our youth which may be a support & comfort to us in our riper years, And we pray for the sake of Jesus Christ that none of our labour or pursuits may ever lead us to neglect the knowledge & [Indecipherable] turn our hearts from thee for in Thee O Lord is our hope & trust.
Accept us & our prayers for the sake of our [Indecipherable]
