My dear Emily,

The Major has just written to say, that an opportunity by private hand of sending a letter to you has just occurred, and I seize the opportunity it in order to let you know - that Sibella after keeping us all long in suspense (Mrs Bush in particular) was brought to bed last Tuesday night 22-23rd inst of a boy - She suffered rather more than usual, as to the time, but has since been remarkably well - indeed her recovery has proceeded without the slightest check, & today she was on a Sopha, for several hours - The infant is also remarkably healthy - We wished of course for a Girl, to be a companion to little Pussy
