My dear Wm. 

We are all so glad that you have heard of our safe arrival in England. I fear our letters were not half as interesting as they ought to have been, but the thorough change to new scenes & new faces almost upsets one's ideas, & I have scarcely recovered myself yet.  I think our last letters were written from Lees where we remained until the 22nd. Septr. then proceeded to Edinburgh & I imagine we added a Postscript from thence via Marseilles. We spent a week at Edinburgh & its vicinity, took the Queens drive near the Castle with the Regalia & Queen Mary's rooms. Queens had not such spacious sumptuous apartments in those days. The view from the Castle height is more worth seeing than other
