My dearest Emmeline -

Very many thanks to you for your liberal gift to me - so much more liberal than I was to you not however from want of inclination I hope - but from the want of the articles than of my having allowed your kind recollection of me to remain so long unacknowledged. In truth I know not why except that I have been writing to England

Mr. Macarthurs note, so pray ask Aunt Livy to say nothing of all this in any letter she may write to Camden.  She is inclined to be fidgetty & James therefore thought it best to be silent on the subject.  Our united love to you both
