My dear Mother
Thank you for your nice letter and the 5/- for my birthday. I got the 5/- yesterday afternoon then about half past five this morning I found a beautiful silk handkerchief on my table from Aunt Katie and Mrs Wilson is going to work my name on it. Then about seven o'clock Bertha brought me a lovely orange cake with 100s and 1000s. Uncle Frank came up and gave me 2 volumes of 'The Voyage of Discovery' from him. I wish I had a birthday everyday. My throat is quite right now thank you.It has been very hot here and today was record but a southerly buster has just come up. Uncle Frank says the temperature was 91 deg at 10:30 and ¼ to 11 it has fallen to 75 deg. 16 deg in ½ of an hour pretty sudden.
