[Wednesday 29 March]

It is warmer today, the sun has at last made an appearance & we notice the difference.

A Taube dropped a bomb on an ammunition factory about 4 ½ miles from our village this morning.

Mac & I went into Aire [Aire-sur-la-Lys] in the afternoon & made the acquaintance of two nice French girls by the name of Marthe & Madoline. We were invited inside & were given rum coffee & were made to feel generally at home. The only thing is that they can't speak English & my French is not equal to the strain of sustained conversation so we have to make numerous references to the dictionary & manage to rub along all right.

It came on to snow as we were going into Aire [Aire-sur-la-Lys], quite a novelty for us.
